ABOUT THE WESTERN SC BLUEWAY FESTIVAL

Western South Carolina’s Premier Outdoor Experience!

What is the BlueWay?

In the fall of 2009, a handful of people who love outdoor sports looked at the abundance of natural and historical assets in the Western S.C. region. They soon realized a great opportunity for promoting the benefits of the outdoor recreation & conservation within this uniquely preserved section of the Sumter National Forest and waterways of Lake Thurmond and the Little River confluence area. Paddling routes were mapped and tested. Biking trails were ridden. Plans came together. The result is the Western S.C. BlueWay, the focal point of the area known as the Freshwater Coast of Lake Thurmond. Altogether, the features that comprise the BlueWay are a regional attraction that provides an ideal recreational hot spot for tens of thousands of adventurers, vacationers, hikers, kayakers, paddleboarders, and outdoors enthusiasts of all kinds.

The Blueway Festival was designed to invite lovers of the outdoors to sample the many offerings of this national treasure through an all-day event. The festival provides attendees the opportunity to learn new skills, meet new friends, or start new adventures. Throughout the day you will be able to test your balance on a stand up paddle board (SUP), compete in fun outdoor challenges, learn to read your high-tech fishing electronics to catch more fish, play or hone your skills at disc golf, or demo an electric-assisted bike.

You will also be able to witness the flips & tricks of the wakeboard and surf show, relax in a hammock by the lake with a local craft beer, and learn about new hiking & biking trails, disc golf courses, and outdoor adventures available right in your back yard.  Additionally, you may compete in outdoor related competitions such as a mountain bike trail ride and much more!

Most importantly, you can begin a healthy outdoor lifestyle with confidence, while supporting local outdoor recreation businesses, restaurants, craft breweries, and musicians who serve the local economy.

Musical entertainment, professional shows, and kids games will continue throughout the day. This is a great chance to try something new!
